Maltby Rother Valley Lions are proud to support Street Friends

Maltby Rother Valley Lions are proud to support Street Friends who are based at Dinnington Resource Centre. Lynn presented a cheque today to Jane Ann Havenhand Mbe to help the group which has been set up to help homeless people living on the street.

They supply them with clothes, coats, hats, scarves, gloves, sleeping bags, blankets, food (rice, pasta, tinned veg, coffee & hot chocolate mixed cups) etc. and rely heavily on donations. If you can help with donations please see their Facebook page or contact the Centre. Well done all, great work!

Following on from last year’s success with Maltby and Rother Valley Lions Christmas Advent Trees, here are some of this year’s winners, representing local schools which participated. This fundraising partnership is great fun for the schools and raises money for MRVL’s.

We would like to thank every body that got involved on behalf of your local community.

Thank you from Maltby and Rother Valley Lions Club
Mrs Morris drew the Maltby Lions’ Advent Tree raffle today during PRIDE assembly. Thank you to everyone for your support, we managed to raise nearly £200 which is amazing! All of this money will go back in to the local community through the work of Maltby Lions. I am pleased to announce that the winners were Miss Wilsher and Mr Jones who have won the advent tree on behalf of the year 4 class - one egg will be earned each day by the class! ?

Don’t forget that we always need help from members of the local community. Could you become a local Lion? Would you like to be part of a very special group of people who put back into their local community? Plus have lots and lots of fun in the process!

If the answer is yes then what are you waiting for? We meet every 1st and 3rd Monday of the month – please call us on 07585 657563 or message us.

How Maltby Rother Valley Lions are bringing a little Christmas joy to our communities

2020 has been a very challenging year for us all, but that doesn’t stop the well needed Lion’s charity work.

Our two sleighs are running, but not stopping this year for photos and everyone is helping by keeping to social distancing rules.

We are visiting schools where classes are being brought out into the playground in their bubbles at a safe distance and we are standing outside supermarkets again with safe distancing.

The lovely lady in the picture is 95 years old and she is watching Santa live on FaceTime.

A few ways in which we can bring the Christmas spirit to the community safely in these uncertain times.

Lions gazebo shelters Maltby Miners Memorial volunteers from the heat

Lions gazebo shelters Maltby Miners Memorial volunteers from the heat

Maltby Miners Memorial Community Group are doing a fantastic job building a memorial displaying engraved name tiles for ex employees of Maltby Colliery. Last week the weather forecast was not good and a message was put on the groups Facebook site asking for the loan of a gazebo.

The Lions offered to lend them ours and Lions John and Dom took it to site. The day turned out to be a very hot one and our gazebo gave some much needed shade to the volunteers working on the memorial.

We all look forward to seeing the finished memorial and learning about the history of Maltby colliery when it is officially opened.

Activity Update from Maltby and Rother Valley Lions Club

Maltby and Rother Valley Lions Club – We Serve image

Our club has been as active as possible in the past few months which has been a difficult time for all. We have had a few of our members who have been shielding until the beginning of August, but keeping in touch via emails, messages, telephone and Zoom meetings helping to keep things going.

We have recently had a small, outdoor, socially distancing meeting to discuss various matters arising since March when we last met as a full group. Some of our members have been out and about since March helping with meal deliveries for an action group and shopping, collecting prescriptions, etc in Maltby and Dinnington for vulnerable people and those unable to get out.

One of our lady members was making scrubs for the NHS at the beginning of lockdown and our club donated to this project. We have helped various individual people and donated to and helped Action groups and Food Banks in Maltby and Dinnington.

We discussed our Santa Christmas Sleighs at the meeting and we are currently organising refurbishment of both sleighs, North and South sides, in the hope that we will be able to get out with them in some way during the Christmas period. This of course is not a certainty, but we will do our best to organise something as so many people look forward to this, but we will have to adhere to government guidelines for everyone’s safety.

We will hopefully be able to have another socially distanced meeting soon when we can invite prospective new members, again we will have to adhere to guidelines in these uncertain times. Meanwhile we are continuing with our ongoing work in the community.

Stay safe everyone, Lynn Reaney, on behalf of MRVL.
